35″x51″
2014
Made from Cherrywood hand-dyed solid fabrics. This is my first attempt at a modern quilt. Modern is a style characterized by such things as solid fabrics, randomness, asymmetry, to name a few. The blocks are made from free-pieced curves, and arranged in a colorwash style. Leaves in shades of blue fall randomly. Then are turned edge applique. The quilting has an overlay style, with dense fills conveying the motion of the falling leaves as well as the textural elements typical of modern quilts. The binding is a wider 1/2″, matching the color changes to the outer border. It also has a color-gradient piping. This quilt is featured in a Machine Quilting August 2014 article.
Images of this quilt are also used in some of AQS’s advertising, including magazine ads, show flyers, large banners (picture below) and a roadside billboard (below). This quilt was sold in 2018.
